Health Minister will not contest from North Shillong seat, Cong recommends Syngkon’s name as candidate

Shillong, Oct 6: Health Minister and sitting Congress legislator from North Shillong constituency, Roshan Wajri has officially announced her decision not to contest the upcoming 2018 state assembly elections.

In her place, the name of Additional Advocate General (AAG), W.H.D. Syngkon was recommended to be the Congress candidate from the constituency.

Warjri conveyed her inability to contest the upcoming Assembly poll deu to person grounds during a general meeting of the North Shillong Block Congress Committee held at her residence at Mawkhar on Friday.

“She (Warjri) has expressed her inability to contest in the upcoming elections as she was not keeping well,” a party functionary said.

Warjri was the first lady legislator from Meghalaya who became the Home Minister of the Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA-II) government.

The meeting of the block congress committee was also held in the presence of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president James Lyngdoh and other functionaries of the North Shillong Block Congress Committee and different Units.

The meeting unanimously resolved to recommend the name of Syngkon as the Congress candidate from the constituency.

Syngkon, is the legal adviser of the MPCC and advisor of the North Shillong Block Congress Committee had also submitted application form for seeking Congress ticket.
