Shillong, Oct 6: Police have arrested two persons allegedly involved in the murder of a woman in the City a month ago.
The murder of the woman, Anjana Sinha (36) was treated a Special Report (S.R) case by police and it was closely supervised. The investigation was assisted by the Special Cell, East Khasi Hills, Shillong as there was no eye witness or clue to the case.
After a month’s of investigation, police said that one person identified as Jacky S. Marak, (21) of Athiabari, West Khasi Hills was picked up and arrested on Thursday.
On his interrogation, another person identified as Sarmaston D. Sangma, (22) of Dholaigaon under Dangar Outpost, Mawsynram, who presently worked as cook in Step-In restaurant, Lachumiere, Shillong was arrested on Friday for allegedly committing the murder.
“The motive of the murder was to commit robbery. He robbed her (Anjana) mobile and cash of about Rs. 2,000. The mobile phone of Anjana has been recovered and the knife used to commit the murder has been recovered from his erstwhile work place at Golden Gate Restaurant, Nongmynsong, Shillong,” police said.
Police also sid that Sarmaston D. Marak was also involved in several thefts including one in his erstwhile workplace Golden Gate restaurant.
He will be produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, here on Saturday, and a police remand will be prayed for to complete the investigation for which early submission of chargesheet will be made.
It may be mentioned that on September 3 between 1:00 am and 1:30 am, Anjana Sinha of Macabbe Road, Polo, who was a street food vendor at Khyndai Lad here for the past 12 years went to keep her cooking table near the power house on the rear road leading to Lady Keane College, Shillong while her husband Suresh Sinha who was not well waited for her at Khyndai Lad.
After 30 minutes of her not returning, the husband went looking for her.
Near the power house where her table was kept, he found her shawl and slipper on the ground.
On further searching, he found the body of his wife 30-40 feet on the ground close to the rear gate leading to Lady Keane College. Her throat was found slit with several injuries on her body.
She was immediately rushed to Civil Hospital, Shillong but was declared brought dead.
An FIR was submitted by her husband on September 3 at Sadar Police Station, here. A case vide Sadar P.S. C/No. 210(09)17 u/s 302 IPC was registered. The FSL team, also visited the place of occurrence to gather clues.
