SHILLONG, JUL 6: The state police apprehended a husband and wife during an anti-infiltration and anti-narcotics drive in Shillong on Monday, seizing suspected heroin from their possession.

According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, personnel of the Anti-Infiltration Drive (AID) and Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) checked 35 individuals on July 6, 2026 as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal infiltration and drug trafficking.

“On seeing police personnel, several persons fled away,” Syiem stated.

Of those checked, all 35 individuals produced identity and residence documents issued by other states.

Police said these documents “need to be verified from these states.”

During the checking, ANTF personnel apprehended two persons identified as Rahim Ali (43) and Jaibanu (35). Police said the couple was found in possession of contraband.

“A contraband of total 116 vials containing suspected heroin, weighing 14.42 grams, were recovered from their possession and seized in the presence of independent witness,” Vivek said.

A case has been registered at Sadar Police Station vide Case No. 242(7)2026 under Sections 21(b)/29 of the NDPS Act and investigation is underway.

The drive was conducted by the East Khasi Hills police as part of intensified operations targeting drug trafficking and illegal entry in the district.
