Shillong, Aug 28: A delegation of the Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) on Monday met KHADC chief executive member, Pynshngaiñlang N. Syiem and reiterated its demand to cancel trading licenses issued to non-tribal traders in violation of the Trading by Non-Tribal Regulation Act.
According to HYC central body general secretary, Robertjune Kharjahrin, the meeting with the CEM was part of the HYC’s Save Hynñiewtrep Mission, for implementing strong laws that can tackle influx and illegal immigration.
Stating that the district council plays an important role, he said the HYC had earlier received information by using the RTI Act, which revealed various anomalies in the process of issuing trading license to over 400 non-tribal traders from 2014 to 2016.
“The RTI has revealed that the trade department of the KHADC has failed to implement the Act in letter and spirit. Therefore we reiterated our demand for immediate cancellation of such trading licenses,” he said.
Kharjahrin said that during the meeting, the CEM has directed the trade department officials to prepare a complete data related to all non-tribal traders who have been issued with trading licenses.
“The CEM has assured that based on the data, the KHADC will take a call on whether to cancel the trading license or not,” he said.
According to him, the HYC has decided to wait for the KHADC to complete preparing the data within a month’s time.
Meanwhile, Kharjahrin said that the CEM has also assured to take up in the Executive Committee the matter related to outsourcing to private parties for issuing labour licenses, before taking a final decision to cancel the same, adding that the district council may entrust the village authority with the responsibility.
