SHILLONG, MAY 26: Alleging sexual harassment of Meghalaya women cricketers, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council has approached the Director General of Police and the Board of Control for Cricket in India, demanding immediate action against certain Meghalaya Cricket Association office bearers.

The HYC’s Sports Cell submitted formal complaints to both authorities on Tuesday, citing “serious allegations” involving state women players.

While noting that the State Women Commission had reportedly taken cognizance of the matter, the Council said, “The seriousness of the allegations demands urgent, fair and independent action from both law enforcement agencies and cricket authorities.”

In its letter to the DGP, the HYC called for “immediate investigation, registration of FIRs where applicable, protection of complainants and witnesses, and legal action against all individuals found responsible.”

Its appeal to the BCCI urged the board “to initiate an independent inquiry, examine the accountability of concerned MCA officials, ensure protection for affected players, and strengthen grievance redressal mechanisms within the cricketing system.”

“The Council stressed that the safety, dignity and welfare of women athletes cannot be compromised and stated that any attempt to suppress complaints or shield influential individuals would undermine public trust and discourage victims from seeking justice,” the HYC said in the statement.

The youth body also “urged all concerned authorities to act swiftly, transparently and impartially to uphold justice and protect the integrity of sports institutions.”
