Shillong, Apr 12: The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has decided to organise a ‘hunger strike rally’ on April 27, as a mark of protest against the failure of the state government to repair the Nongstoiñ-Maweit road which is in deplorable condition.

HYC Maweit Circle president, Jeremiia Dkhar in a statement issued on Friday stated that a short meeting would be held before taking out a procession from Maweit to Nongstoiñ.

“We are protesting against this step-motherly attitude of the state government towards the people of the area,” he said.

He said the Council would soon meet Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads), Prestone Tynsong to seek his immediate intervention to address the problem faced by the people due to the dilapidated condition of the road.

“We would also remind Mawshynrut MLA, Gigur Myrthong who has promised during election to construct a two-lane road and to ensure blacktopping of the Maweit-Nongstoiñ road,” he said.
