Shillong, May 15: International day of Families celebrated by SOS village shillong today held at Umian campus focusing on the importance of knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non- violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.
Speaking in the occasion Mr. Anoop Singh- Village Director Shillong said ” we need people to come out to help the cause and programs and sustain friendly environment with the village.” Briefing on the the present scenario about village he said it is run by the donation of people as well as individual and also supported through grants by the Government of Meghalaya under the scheme of ICPS. He also put light over the view that money is the big factor to run the organisation.
Dr. D.D. Lapang chief Advisory of Government of Meghalaya were the chief guest of the celebration, officers from district social welfare Ri-Bhoi were also present along with local dorbars.
The village was establish in Shillong in 1996. since inception, the center have been delivering long term FBC to children in need, and have also been working to support disadvantage families in the neighborhood communities with FSP.a
