‘Joining BJP is Cong’s ministers, MLAs first preference’

Shillong, June 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Meghalaya has claimed that most of the Congress ministers and legislators would consider first preference to join the saffron party.
“Congress MLAs and ministers’ first preference is BJP,” BJP state general secretary Bashailang Khongwir said while denying that most of the Congress leaders are joining the National People’s Party (NPP).
He said that many leaders of the ruling Congress will be joining the BJP and very few from other political parties.
Khongwir said they (Congress legislators) are not coming forward now so that the anti-defection law would not attract them.
He however claimed that things will be more clearer after the last session of the State Legislative Assembly in September.
On the recent pre-poll alliance of the UDP with HSPDP in Khasi-Jaintia Hills and GNC in Garo Hills region, Khongwir said that the alliance will not be a threat but instead it will benefit the BJP.
