Shillong May 19: Aggrieved candidates for the jugali posts today staged a sit-in-demonstration in front of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) office to protest against the latter’s failure to issue appointment letters.
The sudden decision of the candidates to block the entrance gate to the premises of the MeECL office came after a meeting followed by a protest march from Madan Student, Jaiaw on Friday.
The meeting was called by the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) State Youth Wing, which has been supporting the cause of the deprived jugali candidates.
However on being informed about dharna, the MeECL joint secretary D Warjri invited the delegation of the KHNAM led by its working president Adelbert Nongrum and state youth wing president Thomas Passah for talks.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Passah said that the joint secretary had assured the MeECL would complete the process of issuing appointment letters to all candidates by the month of June.
He said that so far only 290 out of 772 jugalis have been appointed while remaining are at the receiving end in view of the fact that validity period of the merit list is likely to end on August 2.
In view of the assurance, Passah said that they have decided to wait till second week of June and if no concrete steps is being taken, a petition would be filed before the High Court for its necessary intervention into the matter.
