Shillong, Aug 10: The Khasi Jaiñtia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) on Saturday held its executive-cum-zonal meeting at the seminar hall of the State Central Library. The meeting was also attended by presidents and secretaries of the different zones.
KJDSTA president Kular Khongjirem informed that the meeting has resolved to felicitate the ex-president ED Nongsiang and ex-vice president RS Marbañiang in the upcoming general meeting of the association to be held in the city on August 22.
After this, the association will also organize a workshop for all deficit teachers to take their views and suggestions on the draft Meghalaya Service Rules of Aided Schools (Deficit). We will then accordingly send our suggestions on the service rules to the state government for its consideration.
Khongjirem also informed that the meeting has also discussed the pending issues of the deficit teachers related to the recommendations made by the Fifth Pay Commission.
According to him, the state government is yet to implement the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission except hiking the salaries of the teachers.
The association also demands the release of 25 percent arrear (2nd installment) of the revise pay before Teacher’s Day celebration. Khongjirem said if the state government fails to release the 25pc arrear, the matter will be discussed in the general meeting to be held on August 22.
He said the teachers are also demanding the state government for regular disbursement of monthly salary as at present salary is being given on quarterly basis which has created a lot of problem for them to run their family.
He said the KJDSTA will also be meeting the chief minister Conrad K Sangma at his official residence on August 14, to hand over a memorandum which will highlight all the pending issues of the deficit teachers, for his immediate intervention.
