Nagaland government hails Governor Ravi’s commitment on Article 371 (A)

Kohima, Aug 9: The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP)-led People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government in Nagaland on Friday hailed Governor R.N.Ravi for declaring that Article 371 (A) is a solemn and sacred commitment to the people of Nagaland.

The PDA government which is headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio appreciated the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Shri Amit Shah for declaring on the Floor of the Lok Sabha on 6th August 2019 that the special provisions enshrined in Article 371(A) of the Constitution of India will not be touched.

“This gives us greater hope that the peace talks and negotiations for an early, honourable and acceptable solution are in the right direction for which the PDA will extend full cooperation towards realizing the long-felt aspirations of the people,” PDA statement stated.

The ruling PDA coalition is comprised of the NDPP, Bharatiya Janata Party and an Independent.

Governor Ravi had said: “Some people have expressed apprehensions over the implications of development in Jammu & Kashmir on Nagaland. I would like to categorically assure you all that you do not have to worry at all. Article 371(A) is a solemn commitment to the people of Nagaland. It is a sacred commitment.”
