Nongpoh, September 21, 2026: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has demanded the introduction of Khasi as a subject at Nongpoh Nepali Secondary School in Ri-Bhoi district.

KSU leaders visited the school and met the school authorities to submit a written demand seeking the inclusion of Khasi as one of the subjects taught at the institution.

The development comes days after KSU members had approached the District School Education Officer (DSEO) of Ri-Bhoi, urging the district education authorities to direct the school to introduce Khasi as a subject. However, following what the union described as a lack of progress, its representatives again met the DSEO with a written representation.

Before meeting the DSEO, the KSU delegation also met the Principal of Nongpoh Nepali Secondary School and submitted a written request for Khasi to be introduced as a subject.

The DSEO reportedly assured the KSU representatives that the matter would be taken up with the School Managing Committee of Nongpoh Nepali Secondary School in the coming days.

He further assured the delegation that a copy of the communication regarding the proposed meeting with the School Managing Committee would also be forwarded to the district authorities, including the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi, for information.

The KSU Nongpoh Circle delegation was led by Education Secretary David Marwein and included Assistant General Secretary Rishot Lapang, Assistant Education Secretary Baniaraplang Sulein and other members of the Nongpoh Circle.
