SHILLONG, JUL 24: The Khasi Students’ Union held protests across Meghalaya on Friday in support of the Delhi agitation seeking transparency in exams and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Demonstrations were organized at NEHU Shillong, USTM, RIST, NEIAH and MGU. 

KSU units also observed a one-minute silence and held candlelight vigils for 20 students who allegedly died by suicide after the NEET question paper leak.

The union said its Delhi unit has joined the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar. KSU strongly condemned the police action against students in New Delhi on July 20, including lathi charge and use of tear gas.

 It alleged that some persons in police uniform assaulted peaceful protesters.

Calling it a violation of Article 19(1)(a) and 19(1)(b) of the Constitution, KSU said the response showed a lack of accountability and empathy toward students.

The union backed demands for an end to repeated exam paper leaks and for greater transparency, fairness and integrity in recruitment and testing systems.

“The future of lakhs of students cannot be compromised due to mismanagement and corruption,” it said.

KSU urged the Centre to accept the students’ demands immediately and ensure such incidents are not repeated. 

It also expressed support for those injured in Delhi and said it will continue to back the protest and push for education reforms.
