Shillong, Nov 28: To promote unexplored tourist spots in East Jaiñtia Hills district, the Rymbai Elaka Tourism and Environment Society (RETES) will organize a festival known as “Lathutin Festival” at Lamu falls on December 1.
Lamu falls is located at Tap Mala village in the district.
Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, coordinator of the Society, Glorious Bareh said that Lamu falls is one of the beautiful spots but yet to be explored by tourists.
He said that promoting tourism in the district would open up employment opportunity for the people of the area.
Through this festival, tourists will get to visit the falls free of cost, and will witness the performance of “Shad Khla” or “Tiger Dance” by the people of the area besides various cultural extravaganza and musical concerts.
He also said that the society has constructed and repaired roads from the main road upto the venue including footpaths and barricades for safety and the expenditure was Rs 2 lakh.
He also said that the society is also getting support from the District Administration and the Dolloi of the Elaka.
“We have approached the government for financial assistance and we hope that we will get some aid for the festival,” he said.
