Shillong, May 19: Dominant Langsning FC continued their unbeaten march in the 5th Meghalaya State League with a resounding 6-1 victory over Nangkiew Irat SC at the SSA Stadium in Shillong on Monday, registering their 10th consecutive win of the campaign.
In the other Group B fixture, Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC defeated Maram FC 4-2 to strengthen their position in the quarterfinal standings.
Langsning once again showcased their attacking prowess with Samuel Phawa scoring a first-half brace in the 18th and 21st minutes, while league top scorer Nelson Rymbai netted a hat-trick in the 69th, 73rd and 87th minutes. Morningstar Khongkiang also got on the scoresheet in the 58th minute.
Nangkiew Irat’s lone goal came through Ronaldkydon L Nonglait, who curled in an impressive free-kick in the 27th minute to briefly reduce the deficit.
The opening goal originated from a swift counterattack orchestrated by Kyrmenskhem Mukhim, who advanced the ball before Nelson set up Samuel for a simple finish. Samuel doubled the advantage shortly after with a low left-footed strike, taking his tally to 13 goals for the season — joint second-highest in the competition.
Despite Ronaldkydon’s spectacular response, Langsning took complete control after the break as Morningstar and Nelson added four more goals to complete the rout. Nelson now has 21 goals in the tournament and has found the net in every one of Langsning’s 10 matches so far.
Earlier in the day, Shkenshynriah SC overcame Maram FC 4-2 in an entertaining contest.
Hesmiki Rymbai opened the scoring in the 28th minute after Maram goalkeeper Laspoll Ch Marak failed to keep out his effort. Monush Lapang doubled the lead three minutes later after reacting quickest to his rebound effort that struck the upright.
Maram pulled one back in the 50th minute through a long-range strike from Santosh Teron, but Shkenshynriah restored control with further goals from Skilful Tariang in the 61st minute and Niphonghi Sumer in the 78th.
Jakchim K Marak added a late consolation for Maram in the 88th minute after tapping in a cross from Dipen Daimary.
