LJP releases election manifesto for Meghalaya polls

Shillong, Feb 20: The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) said that it would not hesitate to support the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) to tackle influx in the state besides persuading the government to initiate peace talks with militant outfits.

The 17-point election manifesto released by the party here on Tuesday also promised to persuade the state government to come out with a concrete mining policy in view of the present NGT ban on coal mining in the state.

The party is contesting in a single seat in the upcoming February 27 Assembly elections in the state. It is fielding Donlang Nongbri from Mawlai constituency.

Stating that the party is very serious on the matter of influx, it said that the issue of influx in the State of Meghalaya has not been taken seriously by the preceding state governments.

Due to lack of government jobs, the LJP would ask the government to have a policy for job reservation in private sector too.

The LJP will also pursue the demand for ‘waiving of farmers loans’ whether by Kisan Credit Card or otherwise from the Central/State Government

The party also supported 33% representation of woman in the Meghalaya Assembly, free education at least upto class X for children, implement the Village Administration Bill and demand from the State/Central Government to implement the same without further delay.

The LJP will also demand from the State/Central Governments to protect and preserve the indigenous customs, culture and tradition of the people of Meghalaya, construction of roads in rural areas, providing electricity to every village, and ensure pure drinking water facility in every village, proper sanitation, eradicate poverty and unemployment problem and try to provide jobs to unemployed youths of the State.
