LJP releases second list of candidates

Shillong Dec 4: The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has released its second list of three candidates for the upcoming 2018 state Assembly elections.

The candidates announced by LJP state president Jamil Ahmed here on Monday include Tony Marbaniang, who was earlier member of the BJP, who will contest from North Shillong constituency, Donlang Nongbri from Mawlai and Banrilang Jungai from Jowai.

Addressing media persons here, Ahmed said that the party’s target was to contest from as many as 30 constituencies in the upcoming Assembly polls.

He said that his party would shortly release its election manifesto.

Expressing confidence that the LJP will be able to form the government in 2018, Ahmed said that the party was committed to ensure formation of a corruption-free government and bring all round development in the state to make everyone happy.

“In order to prosper, every member of the family needs to be happy including the society and the state as a whole,” he said.

He informed that the party will also take up issues related to ban on coal mining, inclusion of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo languages in the 8th schedule, issues relating to problems faced by the farmers, among others.

According to him, as per his personal assessment, the ban on coal mining has affected about 40 percent of the state economy.

“We will also take up issues faced by deficit schools teachers once we come to power,” he said.

Earlier the LJP had announced two candidates – Arelitha K. Sangma who will contest from Selsella constituency and Denis Tynsiar from Pynursla constituency.
