Shillong, Sept 10: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the deadline for submitting a report of the magisterial inquiry into the mob violence at Mahendraganj was extended to September 30.
Replying to a query raised by leader of opposition Mukul Sangma during question hour on Tuesday, the chief minister said that the magisterial inquiry was ordered on July 25, headed by an additional district magistrate of South West Garo Hills, S C Laloo.
Laloo was earlier asked to complete the inquiry within 15 days. Later the time was extended and September 30 was fixed as the deadline for submitting the report to the government, the chief minister said.
The mob violence had taken place in Mahendraganj on July 22, after it was reported that police had fired on mentally ill person, Ahidul Islam of Nadichar village on July 21.
The leader of opposition also asked the government to direct the deputy commission to give wide publicity on the inquiry so the people could depose before the magisterial inquiry.
