Shillong, September 2: Two contrasting Shillong Premier League 2026 encounters unfolded at the SSA Stadium on Wednesday, with two-time champions Mawlai snatching a dramatic 1-0 victory over Nongkseh, while defending champions Langsning produced a dominant 6-1 demolition of Laitkor.

The evening clash between Mawlai and Nongkseh appeared destined to end goalless before Mawlai captain Damanbhalang Chyne delivered the decisive moment deep into stoppage time. With just five minutes added on, Chyne curled a superb free-kick from the edge of the box into the net in the 90’+5th minute, securing all three points and keeping Mawlai at the top of the table.

The result extended Mawlai’s unbeaten run, while Nongkseh suffered their second consecutive 1-0 defeat after also losing to Shillong Lajong last week.

Both sides created several opportunities in an entertaining contest. Mawlai came close early when Basuklang Bina fired narrowly wide in the eighth minute, before Lovingstar Suting struck the upright two minutes later.

Robertson Khongriah then saw his effort deflected away by Nongkseh defender Kynsailang Khongsit, who produced several important interventions throughout the match.

Nongkseh grew stronger towards the end of the first half and continued to apply pressure after the break, but Mawlai’s defence held firm.

Mawlai substitute Kevin Rymbai twice came agonisingly close to scoring, first rattling the crossbar with a powerful long-range effort and later attempting to chip goalkeeper Daraphun Talang, only to see the ball hit the bar again.

Nongkseh also had opportunities through Hardy Cliff Nongbri. A cross from Mickyson Tangsong was scuffed when it appeared easier to score, while another delivery from Kitboklang Pale found Hardy, whose effort was safely collected by Mawlai goalkeeper Lambhmiki Lamare.

The decisive moment arrived in the fifth minute of stoppage time after a poor tackle by a Nongkseh player just outside the penalty area. Chyne stepped up and opted to shoot directly, finding the net with a superb free-kick.

Langsning Hit Six Against Laitkor

Earlier in the day, defending champions Langsning were in ruthless form as they swept aside Laitkor 6-1 in a match postponed from August 28 because of severe weather.

Mebanshngain Kurkalang gave Langsning the perfect start with goals in the 10th and 12th minutes. Damonlang Pathaw added a third in the 45th minute before Syed Ahmed made it 4-0 in first-half stoppage time.

Mebanshngain, however, was unable to complete the match after picking up an injury and was replaced by Damonlang.

Laitkor improved after the interval following a series of attacking substitutions. Substitute Balajiedlang Lyngwa headed a corner towards goal, but Langsning goalkeeper Nister Roy Suting made the save. The rebound fell to Hamingbert Nongbet, who headed home in the 54th minute.

Langsning quickly regained control. Samuel L Kynshi restored their four-goal advantage in the 84th minute, curling the ball over Laitkor goalkeeper Deranius Wahlang after being set up by Rohan Manar.

The roles were reversed in the 90th minute, with Samuel providing the assist for Rohan to score Langsning’s sixth and final goal in the 90’+4th minute. It was Rohan’s third goal of the season.

Mawlai Lead on Goal Difference

Following Wednesday’s results, Mawlai lead the standings with 10 points, level with Shillong Lajong but ahead on goal difference (+7 to +4). Langsning moved into third place with nine points.

Nongkseh remain sixth with four points, while Laitkor are eighth with three.

On Thursday, Sawmer will face Nangkiew Irat at 3:40 pm. Sawmer will look to recover from their 4-2 defeat to Meghalaya Police in their previous outing, while Nangkiew Irat enter the contest on a high after winning their last two matches.
