SHILLONG, JUN 5: The last date for filing nominations for the Rajya Sabha election is June 8, with the National People’s Party candidate scheduled to file papers at 11 am on Monday, Assembly Secretary Malthus Sangma said on Friday.

“Last date for filing of nomination for the Rajya Sabha poll will be on June 8 (Monday) and today actually the sponsored candidate from NPP wanted to come and file but I got the information that they are yet to prepare some documents,” Sangma told reporters.

“There are some documents which have to be prepared. There is affidavit that needs to be authorized. So, there are some documents which are not yet ready so they will be coming on Monday at 11 am,” he added.

Polling for the Rajya Sabha seat will be held on June 18 from 9 am to 4 pm, with counting of votes to begin at 5 pm the same day.

The elections have been necessitated as the term of office of 24 members of the Council of States is due to expire in June-July 2026.
