Shillong, June 17: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today expressed anguish over the loss lives in a landslide that occurred today at Veneer Product Private Limited MIDC Area Umiam, Ri-Bhoi and Lumkyntong village under Sohra Civil Sub Division.
The Chief Minister conveyed his deepest condolences to the members of the bereaved families and prayed to the Almighty to grant strength and solace to all families who lost their loved ones.
Sangma has also ordered an immediate inquiry into the incident including safety auditing of industrial units to ensure that they conform to parameters of safety requirements and be resilient to withstand any instances of disaster.
The State government has already notified the State Disaster Management Authority to ensure risk reduction during disasters and for having an efficient disaster response system.
