SHILLONG, SEP 2: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday handed over land pattas to 17 families of Ronggi Songgital, one of eight GAD land localities in Tura, of which four have now been covered.

Recalling his 2018 visit to the area, Sangma said the distribution fulfilled a promise made to residents then.

Terming it “a great and satisfying moment,” he said, “The issuance of land documents was the result of dedicated collaboration between the government and the public,” and stressed that such cooperation was vital for development and growth.

He said the documents will give legal security and enable families to avail bank loans, certificates and government schemes.

“The families who received the document can find security especially in availing loans, necessary certifications, govt schemes and services,” he said.

Assuring that pending settlement cases in other localities will be taken up, the Chief Minister said, “The government would proceed only with the consent and cooperation of the people and would not impose any decision unilaterally.”

Beneficiaries said the pattas give them security and recognition of their rights. Officials said the exercise will streamline records and improve clarity of ownership in Tura town.

The event was attended by district officials, community leaders and residents.
