SHILLONG, NOV 18: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that education is a focussed sector for the government.
“Though it is a challenging sector we are working towards transformative changes in the sector through streamlining and reformative measures benefiting not only the students but also the teachers and all stakeholders in the education sector,” Sangma said while addressing at the inaugural function of the newly constructed Mount Hermon English School building at Mebitpara near Dalu held at the school playground.
The new school building has been constructed with financial assistance under the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF) – NGO Category, sanctioned for the year 2024–25, with a total amount of Rs. 5,96,000 allocated through the Dalu C&RD Block.
Sangma, shared that it is a very special day as it is for the first time that his name and is wife’s name who is the local MLA, are together on the commemorative inaugural plaque.
“I think this is a moment to be cherished making this occasion more special,” he said.
He also said that the program is the beginning step towards fulfilling the promises made by the MLA to bring development to the area.
Expressing happiness in inaugurating the school building funded by CMDSF, he said, “Education is a holistic approach developing a child academically, spiritually, mentally and physically and I am confident that this school will play an important role in nurturing education for the children of Mebitpara and nearby areas.”
In her speech, CM’s wife and Gambegre legislator Mehtab Chandee A Sangma thanked the people of the village for the support that they have given her and said, “Though this is my first meeting with you I am aware of the needs and concerns of the village and I will do my best it address them,” she said.
Earlier, the programme began with an introduction and welcome, followed by an invocation prayer and special songs presented by the schoolchildren.
Others who spoke on the occasion included representatives from the NPP Block Level and Chesterfield T. Sangma, President of the Mellim Area Bee Keeper’s Society.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by the benediction prayer.
