Shillong, Aug 2: Meghalaya Governor, Banwarilal Purohit on Wednesday escaped a road accident while five security personnel who travelled in an escort car were injured after it was was hit by a Bolero pick-up truck at Mawlai Mawïong at around 1 pm.
The vehicle where the security personnel were travelling was accompanying the Governor from Guwahati to Shillong.
Police said that nothing adverse happened to the official vehicle carrying the Governor.
According to police, the accident happened when the Bolero pick-up truck that was moving on the same direction, stopped suddenly on the road and the Bolero pick-up truck turned on the road in order to avoid an MVI checking at Mawiong.
Police said that while the Bolero pick-up truck was turning, it hit the escort car, leaving five security personnel injured – Gopal Gurung, Ranjit Mamandhar, M. Sawian, A. Rai and M. Marboh, who were immediately rush to Shillong Civil Hospital for treatment.
Later the Governor visited the injured personnel at the hospital.
Meanwhile the driver of the Bolero pick-up truck was arrested by police who also seized the vehicle.
