SHILLONG, Nov 21: A dignified ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan on Friday to honour war veterans, Veer Naris, and officials of the Sainik Welfare Board, recognising their extraordinary service, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to the nation.
The event brought together ex-servicemen, families of fallen heroes, and members of the defence fraternity for a solemn and heartfelt tribute.
Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar graced the occasion and expressed deep respect for the armed forces.
“The nation’s peace, progress, and sovereignty stand firmly on the foundation of the sacrifices made by the armed forces,” he said. “War veterans are living testaments of India’s military strength and patriotic spirit, whose service continues to inspire younger generations.”
He also paid rich tribute to the Veer Naris, noting, “Their strength symbolises a silent but profound form of bravery.”
Acknowledging the tireless service of the Sainik Welfare Board, the Governor commended its officials for ensuring that the needs of the defence community are handled with dignity and compassion.
The programme included experience-sharing by war veterans, a felicitation ceremony for veterans and Veer Naris, and interactive sessions aimed at strengthening support mechanisms for veterans and their families.
War veterans and Veer Naris expressed their gratitude for the recognition and appreciated the State’s continued commitment to their welfare.
