Shillong, May 5: The Meghalaya government on Tuesday requested stranded citizens outside the North East region to wait till the end of this month.
“We would like to fervently request all our citizens stranded in different parts of the country, to consider returning to the state only after the end of May. We request them to have patience as this is for their interest and safety of the state,†Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters.
The state government has decided to bring back all stranded citizens on condition that they should strictly adhere to protocols and advisories. Tynsong said the process of registration for such citizens, is going on.
“I am also to inform that stranded citizens coming from places categorized as “red zoneâ€, the quarantine period will be up to 28 days,†he said.
The Deputy CM further informed that he has also received phone calls from some students, stranded outside the NE region, expressing their decision not to return to the state.
“I salute them for their willingness to understand the gravity of the situation. They told me that they have decided not to return to the state as they do not want to be a problem for their family members and the people of the state as a whole,†he said.
