Shillong, Apr 22: Meghalaya is all set to tie up with a Japan-based company for cultivating of Shiitake mushrooms in the state.
“We will soon start cultivation of Shittake mushroom, which is locally known as ‘tit-tung’, in the state,†Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh today said.
He informed that if everything goes well, the state government will be signing a MoU with the Yats Corporation Co.Ltd, a company from Japan on Tuesday.
According to him, farmers from the state will be going to Japan for a three-month training on Shittake mushroom cultivation.
Asked, the minister said that climate condition in East Khasi Hills and parts of West Khasi Hills have been found to be suitable for the cultivation of the Shittake mushroom.
