Shillong, Mar 02: The budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will begin tomorrow with the Governor’s address.
This will be the maiden speech of the Governor, Banwarilal Purohit in the State Assembly after taking aditional charge as Governor of the state.
Purohit who is also the governor of Assam, took oath as the Governor of Meghalaya on January 28 in the place of V. Shanmuganathan who quit as governor of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh on January 26 following allegations by Raj Bhavan staff that he was “seriously compromising” the dignity of gubernatorial office and accused him of turning Raj Bhavan into a “young ladies club”.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will present in Assembly the budget estimates of the state for the year 2017-2018 on March 15 and the general discussion on the budget by members of the House will take place on March 17 and 20.
The session which has 15 working days, will conclude on March 24.
