Meghalaya Revenue Minister reviews state’s preparedness for ensuing monsoon

Shillong, May 7 : Meghalaya Revenue and Disaster Minister, Kyrmen Shylla held a review meeting to assess the State’s preparedness for meeting the challenges of the ensuing monsoon.

In the meeting, Shylla took stock of the damages caused due to sporadic cyclone and rain that lashed some parts of West Khasi Hills, South Garo Hills parts of North and East Garo Hills Districts last month.

Joint Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management also informed about a lightning strike occurred on April 21 at Mawkadiang village West Khasi Hills where two persons Phuldaris Marwein and Horbinus Jyrwa died on the spot, while a few were injured.

The official informed that ex-gratia payment of Rs.4,00,000/- has been paid to the next of kin of the deceased persons.

In the meeting, Shylla directed the officials of the Department and all the Deputy Commissioners to be on alert and gear up field level officers to meet any eventuality in case of any natural disaster.

The Minister expressed his happiness and satisfaction on the contribution made by the Department in containing the COVID-19 in the State and informed that the amount released to the Departments and all the Districts as on today is Rs.3,33,43,275/- only to meet the challenges of the extra-ordinary situation arising out of COVID-19 pandemic.
