Shillong, Mar 26: The Meghalaya government has set up a shelter homes for students hailing from other states and other districts of the state stranded in Shillong in view of the 21-day nation-wide lockdown on account of COVID-19.
Shillong is considered as an educational hub for the entire North Eastern region.
“Any stranded students from outside Shillong, who requires assistance and who has ran out of stocks can come and stay at the shelter home,†Principal Secretary Education, Donald Philips Wahlang said.
The two designated shelter homes are MBOSE Guest House and Education Guest House at Laitumkhrah, Kennel Worth road.
Wahlang said the stranded students must produce the the student’s identity card and also to register their names at MBOSE Guest House to avail the benefits of students shelter homes.
He said the precautionary measures adopted by the State’s education department since many students from Meghalaya are stranded outside the state and needing help.
“We are hopeful that other states will emulate the Meghalaya government’s initiative,†he said.
The government has also directed the concerned school managing committees to strictly comply with the order or face stringent penalties in accordance with the law.
