Shillong, Sep 13: The Meghalaya State Senior Athletics Championship 2026 will begin on Monday at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre on the NEHU Shillong campus, with the three-day meet scheduled to conclude on Wednesday.
The championship is being organised by the Meghalaya Athletics Association (MAA) with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
A total of 18 track and field events will be contested, including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m races, along with long jump, high jump, triple jump, javelin, discus, shot put, hammer throw, half marathon and three relay events.
For the field events, the equipment specifications include an 800g javelin, 2kg discus, 7.26kg shot put and 7.26kg hammer throw.
Each affiliated district unit of the MAA has been allowed to enter a maximum of two athletes per event, with no reserves permitted except in the relay events, where two reserves can be included. Each district is limited to 32 athletes—16 men and 16 women.
The opening ceremony will be held at 2pm on Monday, with newly appointed Director of Sports and Youth Affairs Alertson Nongbri as the chief guest. Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Affairs PB War Nongbri will attend as the guest of honour.
The championship is expected to provide senior athletes from across Meghalaya with an opportunity to compete at the state level and showcase their performances across a wide range of track and field disciplines.
