Shillong,July 03: Staging a candle light vigil at Gorkha Patshala ground on Sunday evening, members of the Gorkha community, Meghalaya protested against the killing of three innocent lives by the armed forces in Darjeeling, a few days back.
The Gorkha community from Shillong was on Sunday come out in large number to extend their solidarity with the victims of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha clash in Darjeeling. Hundreds of people gathered at Gorkha Patshala ground, lighting a candle in memories of the martyr’s who sacrifice their live for Gorkhaland in Darjeeling. Local leaders too joining hand to pay their respect to the victims.
The Candle light vigil was taken out Gorkha Patshala ground, Garikhana from 5pm onward.
Pema Lama a Gorkha community member of Shillong said we gathered here today to pay respect for the three innocent who lost their live on the unprovoked firing by the police at Darjeeling. “We all the Nepali speaking people having the identical crisis, so this is the movement of identity”, he said.
We condemned the action taken by the police and we give the moral and physical support for the Gorkha Movement which is going on in Darjeeling, he further added.
Voicing out the same concerns on Sunday, the Pynthorumkhrah MLA, A.L Hek said anything inhuman is condemned as we have lost three very precious soul ,who have been killed by the armed forces of West Bengal .So we pray for the eternal soul to rest-in-peace. Peace should be prevail in life and society.
We also support the movement taken by the Gorkha Movement in Darjeeling, it is a good movement by the Gorkha, he added.
We strongly condemned the humiliation to any human especially the women from Meghalaya who have been asked to leave the Golf Club for wearing “Jainsem” a traditional dress worn by the indigenous Khasi women.
