MEPA delegation meets Governor

Shillong, Sept 18: A nine-member delegation of Meghalaya Editors’ and Publishers’ Association (MEPA) met Governor, Banwarilal Purohit on Monday and submitted to him a six-point request for the welfare and social security of working and non-working journalists and for the well beings of media establishments of Meghalaya-based, including small and marginal media units.

Among other things, introduction of meaningful Social Security Schemes for working and non-working journalists including their dependents, like pension, housing scheme, full medical reimbursement for medical treatment including hospitalization; bringing out a sound new advertisement policy according to the need of the time; immediate clearance of all advertisement bills pending with different government departments for years together and henceforth to clear the bills within three months.

The Governor has clearly told the MEPA delegation that he agreed 100 per cent with the points raised by MEPA and expressed surprise to learn that these things are taking place in the state.
He said that he would write a clear cut letter to the Chief Minister recommending to him to implement the genuine and important points raised by the Association as they are for the betterment and well beings of the media in Meghalaya.
