Nongpoh, June 25: The DK Group Football Tournament, organised by a group of youth from Umsning, concluded on Thursday with an exciting final match between MK Football Club and Turbo Football Club after weeks of competition involving 35 participating teams.
Football continues to be one of the most popular sporting events among people, whether played on large or small grounds, attracting enthusiastic spectators and providing a platform for players to showcase their talent and skills.
The closing ceremony and final match were attended by Bah Ransom Sutnga, Co-Chairman of the Meghalaya Infrastructure Development Corporation (MIDC), as the chief guest. He was accompanied by Bah Korting Warjri, Rangbah Shnong of Umsning Patarim, senior citizens Paieid J.S. War and Paieid L. Sohtun, along with other dignitaries and community members.
In the final, MK Football Club emerged as champions and lifted the tournament trophy along with a cash prize of ₹30,000. Turbo Football Club finished runners-up and received a trophy and a cash award of ₹15,000.
Players and supporters of MK Football Club celebrated enthusiastically after securing the championship title.
Speaking at the closing programme, Bah Ransom Sutnga congratulated the organisers for successfully conducting the tournament despite limited financial resources and the absence of major sponsors. He praised their dedication and commitment in making the event a success.
He also highlighted the importance of sports in shaping the future of young people and society. Sutnga said that as long as the youth continue to participate in sports and constructive activities, there remains hope for a stronger and brighter future. He stressed that sports help build discipline, character and unity among young people and encouraged them to remain actively involved in sporting activities.
The tournament concluded on a festive note, with organisers and participants expressing hope that the event would continue to provide opportunities for young footballers in the region to develop and showcase their talents.
