Shillong, Mar 3: The Meghalaya Physical Education & Sports Association (MPESA) has urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to prioritize the recruitment of qualified physical education professionals in schools, colleges, and government departments.

This call to action is rooted in the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes the importance of sports and physical education in the curriculum.

The key demands of the association are – Specific Qualification Requirements: MPESA requests that job postings for physical education roles explicitly require qualifications such as Diploma/B.P.Ed/M.P.Ed/P.hd.

The association also wants the government to incorporate a rule requiring only qualified physical education degree holders to be appointed to relevant positions.

The MPESA also urged the government to fill vacant physical education posts in schools and higher educational institutions.

MPESA Adviser Kyrmenlang Uriah highlighted the significance of physical education, particularly as Meghalaya prepares to host the National Games.

Uriah emphasized that physical education fosters respect for one’s body, promotes integrated development of mind and body, and enhances self-confidence, self-esteem, and academic achievement.
