Shillong, April 24: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress today said that Dr Mukul Sangma will continue as Chief Minister in 2018.
In a statement issued today, MPYC president Richard Marak said, “the people of Meghalaya have full faith in the Congress party. The Congress will come back to power in 2018 and Dr Mukul Sangma will continue as Chief Minister.”
The MPYC also condemned the statement made by Assam finance minister and BJP leader, Himanta Biswa Sarma against Dr Mukul.
Marak also predicts that the BJP will not be able to open an account in the assembly in 2018.
Speaking at the state executive meeting held at Congress Bhavan on Monday, Marak said, “These comments only show him and his party’s desperation. Just because he himself could not fulfill his own aspirations of becoming the Chief Minister of Assam, he diverts attention from his own shortcomings by making unsavory remarks at someone who was once a colleague and a batch mate in the INC.”
Sarma had in his statement claimed that the chief minister Mukul Sangma will lose from his own seat (Ampati) in 2018 in view that Meghalaya is one of the worst performing states in the North East region.
However, Marak said there visibility of the developmental projects in the state during the tenure of Sangma which include creation of new districts, subdivisions, C&RD Blocks and police stations.
“We have the best roads. Initiatives are being taken on Medical and engineering colleges. These are just a few achievements of the Congress led MUA government,” he said adding “Dr Sangma has delivered more than he promised.”
Meanwhile, the meeting was attended by IYC national secretary i/c Sarifa Rahman, PT Sawkmie, MDC, Mawlai Constituency, KHADC, Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha Youth Congress Presidents, District Youth Congress Presidents and other office bearers.
The purpose of the meeting was for review of programmes conducted assembly wise, appointments of new office bearers in the state, district and assembly levels.
Former President of GSU Khasi Hills Zone Saljrang G Momin formally joined the MPYC and was inducted as Secretary in the state committee.
Andrew Shullai, MDC, Jowai Constitutiency, JHADC, was also inducted as a secretary in the state committee.
Phazmon Dkhar, MDC Wapung Constituency, JHADC, was also inducted as a secretary in the state committee. Among other things, election preparedness was also discussed.
