Mukul wishes to veterans

Shillong, Dec 13: Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma wished that veteran leaders with “wealth of experience” come back as members of the next Assembly.

“I would still like to convince them to contest (the upcoming polls) as we will miss such friends with wealth of experience,” Sangma told the Assembly held here on Wednesday.

He was referring to three senior Congress legislators including five-time former chief minister DD Lapang, deputy chief minister Roytre C Laloo and health minister Roshan Warjri, who all have announced their decision not to contest in the upcoming elections.

Replying to a motion moved by suspended member of the party Pynshngain N. Syiem, the chief minister also wished that all MLAs who would contest come back as members of the new House in 2018.

Syiem earlier had initiated discussion that laws and policies are the road map for the overall dynamic growth of the state.

Sangma however said that the present government in the last five years has taken up a number of legislative measures which include bringing amendments and introduction of new laws through this wealth of experience of leaders.

“We have pave the way and I hope the next House will see positive outcome through this humble initiative (of the present state government),” he added.
