NEHU CONVOCATION – NITI AAYOG MEMBER

Shillong, Apr. 28: NITI Aayog member Dr Vijay Kumar Saraswat today said plans for the North East region are being developed by the NITI Aayog in consultation with the various state governments.

Speaking to reporters after delivering his address at the XXIV Convocation of the NEHU held here, Dr Saraswat said, “We are doing what is called planning process in synchronization with the state government because now it is not a top-down approach.”

Over 8000 students were conferred with degrees during the convocation. Of this, there are 128 Ph.D, 47 MPhil, 839 PG Degrees and 7975 Bachelor’s Degree.

He said that there has been a tremendous interaction between the NITI and various state governments.

“That is helping us to work out plans in a positive manner and also to monitor implementation and take feedback as to what corrective measures we need to take in case there are issues of implementation,” he added.

The NITI Aayog member also informed that they have already given the state governments to study the three-year action plan.

“The NITI Aayog will interact with each states based upon what suggestions they have given and what has been identified as a priority area for action plan accordingly a final action plan for next 3 years will be evolved,” he said.

Reacting to a recent comment on the functioning of the NITI Aayog, Dr Saraswat however said, “NITI Aayog’s first fundamental principle is that there is a body which is giving an unbiased thinking about how the country should progress.”

He also stated that the NITI Aayog has no agenda except one which is for the development of the entire nation.
