Shillong,Sep. 27: The North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) has accused the Dean of Students & Welfare (DSW) Prof H Kayang for allegedly indulging in campaigning in the recently held election of the Union’s new body.
“Kayang, who is supposed to be an impartial and neutral official of the University has actively campaigned and used unbecoming and communal language to influence the outcome of the elections,” NEHUSU president Napoleon S Mawphniang said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
He said that students and the union of the University are very disappointed by the behavior of the DSW and demand an explanation as to his behavior.
“We, as the Students Union of NEHU have our differences with the administration on several issues which plague the University. But we do not believe that the officials or the administration should obstruct or interfere in the democratic process of student affairs,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mawphniang said that the union has also decided to take the matter before the authorities of NEHU, as well as the UGC and the Ministry of HRD to inquire into the action of the Dean for appropriate action against him.
