SHILLONG, SEPT 7: The NEIGRIHMS Nurses Association (NNA) will go on Mass Casual Leave on September 9 to press for its demands, and has warned of an indefinite strike from September 17 if the issues are not resolved.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Monday.
The Association said it is agitating over non-fulfilment of its demands, which include filling all sanctioned Nursing Officer posts through regular recruitment, withdrawing the proposal to outsource Nursing Officers, implementing the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare OM dated May 30, 2026, and early holding of the pending recruitment exam.
According to the NNA, it had held a meeting on August 19 with Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla and Director Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta, but there has been no “satisfactory communication, concrete feedback, or a time-bound resolution.”
The NNA said as part of its phased agitation it wore black badges on duty from August 17 and staged symbolic dharna from 2 pm to 4 pm between August 18 and 21.
A peaceful rally planned on August 21 from the OPD Gate to the Director’s Office had to be cancelled following prohibitory orders under Section 163 BNSS.
The Association had also served a 14-day notice earlier stating it would proceed on mass leave on September 9 if demands were not met.
It has now reiterated that it will go ahead with the mass leave and will launch an indefinite strike from September 17 if no concrete steps are taken.
