Shillong, June 4: The stage is set for the 5th edition of the Meghalaya State League (MSL) final, where Nongkseh SSCC will take on Langsning FC in what promises to be a fiercely contested encounter at the SSA Stadium on Friday. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 pm, with the match also set to be livestreamed on the Hello Meghalaya app.

The Meghalaya State League, initiated in 2017 by the Meghalaya Football Association and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, was designed to identify and promote football talent across the state. This year’s edition featured 33 teams from across Meghalaya, narrowing down to the final two contenders.

A notable trend in the competition’s history is that no club has won the title more than once across the previous four editions, and MSL 5 will guarantee a new champion, with both Nongkseh SSCC and Langsning FC reaching the final for the first time.

Nongkseh SSCC have enjoyed an unbeaten run throughout the tournament and will rely on key players such as captain Hardy Cliff Nongbri. Head coach Richard Nongneng expressed confidence ahead of the final, stating that his team has prepared well and is focused on lifting the trophy.

Langsning FC, coached by Khlain Pyrkhat Syiemlieh, also enter the final with strong momentum. Team captain Atlanson Kharmaw said the squad is ready to go “all out from the beginning,” expressing belief in their chances of securing the title.

The two sides are no strangers to each other, having met earlier in the SSA Champions Cup semifinals in December, where Langsning initially led before Nongkseh staged a comeback to win on penalties.

Tournament officials, including Meghalaya Football Association president Hamletson Dohling, have urged fans to turn up in large numbers, highlighting the strong turnout throughout the competition as a reflection of Meghalaya’s deep-rooted passion for football.

With packed stadiums and high anticipation, the final is expected to be a fitting conclusion to a tournament that has showcased the growing strength of grassroots football in Meghalaya.
