New Minister for C&RD spells out priorities

Shillong, March 09: New Minister for Community and Rural Development, Sniawbhalang Dhar said that the MDA government would come up with a proposal for creating of infrastructure in newly created blocks in the state.

The then Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA-II) government had created as many as six new Community & Rural Development Blocks in the state.

Dhar however said that the estimate would differ from one block to another.

Earlier the people of East Jaintia Hills district have opposed the decision of the state government to shift the Wapung C&RD Block from Wapung village to Lumshnong in the same district.

The minister said that he would call back the file to study the matter but gave no any assurance.

Dhar, who was made minister of the department for the second time, maintained that improving the implementation of the MNREGS in the state will be one of his priorities.

Dhar who is also the minister in-charge transport department said that he would look into improving infrastructure for air connectivity in the state including expansion of the runway at Umroi Airport.
