Shillong, March 31: A new political party “People’s Democratic Front (PDF)” which will contest the next Assembly elections was declared here today.
PDF leaders however are yet to spell out clear ideology of the party.
Speaking to reporters in a private house at Nongrim Hills here as a mark of the formal declaration, PDF working president, Emlang Lytan said that the party’s constitution including its ideology would be properly framed and get the party registered with the Election Commission of India.
He also said that the PDF would contest 2018 Assembly elections adding that the party welcome anyone “with lesser devil” to be part of the party and work together to bring change in the state.
The PDF leaders refused to declare the name of suspended Congress MLA and MDC from Mawsynram, Pynshngaiñlang N. Syiem as the main leader, despite talks the KHADC chief executive member would lead the party from the front.
Neither Syiem nor some of the MDCs in KHADC who are his loyalists were seen at the meeting.
The office bearers of the PDF included, Ivanlum Marbaniang (president), Emlang Lytan (working president), Auspicious Lyngdoh Mawphlang (general secretary), Shamborlang Khongwir and H. Samuel Marngar as vice-presidents, Dengbok Kurkalang (joint secretary), Aibor L. Nonglait (finance secretary), Drus Lyngdoh (treasurer), and Traibok Nongkhlaw and Peter Thongni both as Auditors.
Lytan said that the PDF was formed on March 1 after many rounds of discussions with a number of citizens who felt the need for a vibrant system of governance address problems of the people as the present state government has failed on all fronts be it, tackling corruption, unemployment problem and other issues.
