Shillong, May 28: Nongkseh SSCC and Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC will battle for a place in the final of the 5th Meghalaya State League when they face off in the first semifinal at the SSA Stadium on Friday. Kick-off is scheduled for 6pm.
Nongkseh advanced to the semifinals after topping Group A in the quarterfinal league stage, while Shkenshynriah secured qualification as runners-up from Group B.
Shkenshynriah are making their second consecutive semifinal appearance, having also reached the last four in MSL 4, where they suffered a penalty shootout defeat to Shillong Lajong FC. Several players from that campaign remain part of the squad, including Skilful Tariang, Hesmiki Rymbai, Niwan-o Bareh and Jeremy Nongtdu, all of whom have played important roles in the club’s impressive run this season.
The East Jaintia Hills-based side are also the only semifinalists not from Shillong, reflecting the broader vision of the Meghalaya State League, an initiative of the Meghalaya Football Association supported by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Shkenshynriah topped Group D during the preliminary phase before defeating Amlarem SC in the Round of 16. In the quarterfinal league stage, they lost twice to the strong Langsning FC side but registered four wins over Nangkiew Irat SC and Maram FC to seal their semifinal berth.
Facing Langsning is expected to have provided valuable preparation ahead of their clash with Nongkseh, who are known for a similarly aggressive and organised style of play.
Although this is Nongkseh’s first appearance in the MSL, the team boasts several experienced players with exposure to higher-level competitions, including the Indian Football League. The club assembled a formidable squad in 2025 and remains unbeaten since. Key players such as Hardy Cliff Nongbri, Shano Tariang, Sheen Sohktung and Chesterpaul Lyngdoh have been central to the team’s dominance this season.
Nongkseh are the only unbeaten side left in the competition, though they have been held to three draws. The club has also enjoyed strong support from fans throughout the tournament, something that could prove crucial as they aim to reach the final.
Despite entering the match as favourites, Nongkseh will be wary of the surprises the Meghalaya State League has produced in previous editions. Shkenshynriah, meanwhile, will look to continue their underdog journey with another upset victory.
Tickets for the semifinal will be available at the venue, priced between Rs 100 and Rs 300. Organisers have advised spectators not to carry water bottles, dangerous materials, weapons, illegal substances or other prohibited items into the stadium. Smoking and consumption of alcohol inside the venue have also been strictly prohibited.
