Shillong, Apr 20: Nongkseh SSCC produced a stunning attacking display to thrash Umkaber SCC 13-0 in Group A of the Meghalaya State League (MSL 5) at the SSA Stadium here on Monday.
It was a day dominated by Shillong-based teams, with all five city clubs in action securing comfortable victories to climb to the top of their respective groups. Wins were also recorded by Umlakro SC in Group F and A’chik SCO Rongjeng in Group G.
Nongkseh’s emphatic win was powered by hat-tricks from Chesterpaul Lyngdoh (5′, 45′, 56′) and Shano Tariang (12′, 38′, 52′), while Khrawkupar Jana (32’P, 45’+1), Kitboklang Pale (57′, 78′) and Sheen Sohktung (70′, 82′) scored braces. Umkaber’s misery was compounded by an own goal from Banshanlang Kharsynniang (30′).
Reduced to 10 men after Andriano P Mawlong was shown a straight red card for a foul in the box, Umkaber struggled to contain Nongkseh’s relentless attack, conceding seven goals in the first half and six more after the break.
In Group C at Amlarem, defending champions Mawlai SC cruised to a 6-1 victory over Lamin XI SCC, thanks to a hat-trick by Damanbhalang Chyne (12′, 28′, 44’P). Arkibor Makhroh (17′), Basuklang Bina (32′) and Wadshwa Latoo (86′) added to the tally, while Shanbor Sumer (19′) scored for Lamin XI.
At the MFA Ground in Shillong, Nangkiew Irat SC defeated Mawphu SC 3-0 in Group B, with all goals coming in the first half through Dibinroy Nongspung (5′, 38′) and Banshanlang Nongdhar (43′).
A’chik SCO Rongjeng registered an identical 3-0 win over Attong Matgrik FC in Williamnagar in Group G, with Perioush N Sangma (50′) and Klubarth M Sangma (66′, 72′) finding the net in the second half.
In Group F, Umlakro SC edged Mishon SSCC 1-0 in Mairang, courtesy of an early strike by Jewelstar R Marak (6′), handing Mishon their second consecutive defeat.
Meanwhile, 2019 champions Shillong Lajong FC defeated Lamyrsiang SCC 3-1 in Wahiajer in Group E. Hamedamanbha Wahlang (27′), Lalmuansanga (46′) and Deibormame Tongper (63′) scored for Lajong, while Eborki Marsharing (45’+2) netted for Lamyrsiang.
In Group H, 2023 champions Rangdajied United FC secured a 3-1 win over Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun in Mawkyrwat, with goals from Pasborlang Khonglikong (9′), Phibankhrawbok Nongkhlaw (31′) and Khainkupar Iawphniaw (62′). Rangkynsaistar Mawsor (86′) scored a late consolation.
The only drawn match of the day saw Ladthadlaboh SC and Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung SC share the spoils in a 2-2 encounter in Khliehriat. Jalaphet led 2-0 through Thomas Dkhar (57′) and Briwon Dkhar (59′) before Ladthadlaboh staged a comeback via substitutes Andrew Nanghuloo (71’P) and Evening Tariang (90’+1).
