Shillong, Oct 12: National People’s Party on Wednesday reached out to the electorates of Selsella Constituency and sensitized them on the “misrule” of the Congress-led government in the state.
Addressing a public gathering at Nawaldare playground, NPP National President Conrad K. Sangma said, “Congress MLAs are shifting their loyalties to NPP, which is a clear sign of misrule in their party (Congress)”.
Conrad Sangma enlightened the gathering and urged everyone irrespective of religious and cultural backgrounds to come together and work to ensure the victory of NPP in the upcoming election.
“NPP is committed to work for the tribals, minorities and marginalized section of the society. It is the responsibility of our party to raise our concern at all platforms. We will not allow anybody including political parties to divide us in the name of caste, creed or religion. We will not tolerate if anybody wants to force ideology or practices upon us, we will fight back tooth and nail and oppose such ideas”, said Conrad Sangma infront of the thousands of supporters, who had come to pledge their support for NPP candidate Ferlin A. Sangma, a retired MCS officer, who is contesting the upcoming election.
Conrad Sangma informed the gathering that the mood and wind across Garo Hills in particular and Meghalaya was against the Congress party. “Public are willing to give their 100 per cent to uproot the Congress and its corrupted leaders for good”, he said, while adding that Congress under the leadership of Mukul Sangma does not stand a chance to win Selsella constituency.
He assured the crowd that Ferlin Sangma was a right candidate and a respected women leader, who has worked in various capacities as a civil servant for the welfare and progress of the state.
Speaking to the crowd, Ferlin Sangma said, “We should understand the importance of our rich natural resources and tap its potential for livelihood opportunities. Tourism is an important area of concern and we have to build capacity to promote the sector in nook and conner of Garo hills”.
She also exhorted the crowd on the importance of improving the standard of education in Selsella area with particular focus on upgrading the primary schools, high schools and higher secondary schools in the constituency.
