NPP condemns remarks against Khasi lady who wears Jaiñsem in Delhi

Shillong, June 27: The National People’s Party (NPP) on Tuesday condemned the racist remarks and ill-treatment meted out to a Khasi woman, who was subjected to discrimination and humiliation at the Delhi Golf Club for wearing a tradtional dress, Jaiñsem.
In a statement issued here, NPP spokesperson and MLA, James K. Sangma said, “Such remarks are not only an insult to the pluralistic ethos of the country, but also a matter of great shame that despite all efforts to bring about a change in people’s mindset in the metropolitan cities to end racism, nothing has changed.”
Along with unconditional apology from the management of the club, the NPP demanded stringent, exemplary and prompt action be taken against those directly involved in the incident.
