SHILLONG, SEP 1: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Tuesday said the NPP is different because it listens to the people and is not afraid to modify its decisions.

Speaking at the NPP’s 14th Foundation Day and 79th birth anniversary of founder P A Sangma, Dhar said, “Our NPP is different. No matter how much we are pelted with stones, we keep working for the beloved people of Meghalaya. This is our uniqueness.”

He said there is no rift in the party under CM Conrad K Sangma and Prestone Tynsong and added, “We never run away from truth, we are never ashamed to modify our decisions for the welfare of our people.”

Dhar said the government recently passed the resolution against uranium mining and thanked Dr D R L Nonglait for his inputs on the Official Language Amendment Bill. 

He said it was the NPP that had also passed the resolution on ILP.Paying tribute to late P A Sangma, he said the former CM, Union Minister and Lok Sabha Speaker left behind legacies the party should not forget.

On the border issue, Dhar said, “No one dared to take it up before elections. Some leaders said we might lose elections. The Chief Minister and Prestone Tynsong said if we lose for the welfare of the state, let us lose.”

He said the first phase resolving six areas of difference is complete and the second phase is underway.

Dhar said the government launched around 35 schemes in eight years, including CM-Elevate, PRIME, YESS Meghalaya and CM-Assured.

On scrapping interviews for Grade C and D posts in DSC, he said, “We want to assure transparency. Yes we are criticized, but we want to show our youth that yes, we have done it on your behalf.”
