Shillong, June 11: The ruling National People’s Party (NPP) is likely to get some Congress MLAs into its kitty.
Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong along with other NPP leader will visit Ranikor, the constituency being represented by Congress MLA, Martin M. Danggo, in all likelihood to get him into the party.
Danggo has to resign as Congress MLA before joining the NPP and seek re-election on an NPP ticket in the bye elections.
Tynsong told reporters that the party would like to welcome Danggo and other MLAs who wish to join.
He also slammed the Congress saying that it (Congress) lost power in Meghalaya due to the leadership of former chief minister, Mukul Sangma. Mukul is the leader of Opposition in Assembly now.
“Congress is out because of him (Mukul). He single handedly wanted to do things and he has failed. Even me, I came out of the Congress of the leadership of Mukul, who run the government like a company,†Tynsong said.
Tynsong has been with Congress since 2003, and joined the NPP on January 4 this year, before going to the Assembly polls held on February 27.
If Danggo and other Congress MLAs joined, the strength of the NPP would be further strengthened.
NPP now has 20 MLAs, and the opposition Congress has 21 MLAs including Danggo, in the 60-member Assembly.
The NPP is leading the coalition Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government and other parties like the UDP, PDF, BJP, HSPDP, NCP and Independents are supporting it.
Danggo has been demanding for creation of civil sub division at Ranikor, but the previous Congress-led government created the Ranikor administrative unit instead of the civil sub division.
Danggo had also a delegation from Ranikor to the chief minister, deputy chief minister and other ministers recently and urged the government to fulfill the long aspiration of the people to have the civil sub division.
The chief minister had told the delegation from Ranikor that the demand was a genuine one, and assured to look into it.
