Shillong, Apr 29: The ruling National People’s Party (NPP) on Monday predicted the end of the opposition Congress in Meghalaya after the Lok Sabha polls.
“A loss in the Lok Sabha election will see the end of the Congress in Meghalaya,” NPP state president Dr WR Kharlukhi told reporters here while reacting to the allegations of the Congress that the NPP is disguising its relationship with the BJP..
Terming the allegation as a political lie, Kharlukhi said “We never disguise our relationship with the BJP.”
He said in January this year a meeting of all regional parties of the NE was held in Guwahati under the chairmanship of Conrad K Sangma CM of Meghalaya who is also the national president of the party in which a decision was arrived at to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
He added then on February the National General Council of the NPP was held in Shillong in which the party decided that if the CAB is passed in the Rajya Sabha the party will withdraw from the NDA. Since the BJP did not introduce the CAB in the Rajya Sabha the NPP still remained till date part of the NDA.
Kharlukhi however said this same political lie was spread by the Congress during the district council election but the people have given them resounding reply in which they lost miserably in Khasi HIlls and they were decimated in Jaintia Hills
“I am very confident that the people will give them a befitting reply on May 23 and they will realise that spreading lies will not help them. I pity the Congress losing every election from 2018 onwards, this seems to be the last straw that they are grasping at,” the NPP state president said while adding after May 23, they will also realise that their dreams of coming back to power in Meghalaya is going to be a distant dream.
